Acoustic consultants in Aberdeen.
Energy sector industry and a working harbour, with genuinely rural background conditions a short distance inland.
The local picture
What we deal with in Aberdeen.
Aberdeen's industrial base is built around the harbour and the energy sector, including the fabrication, supply and servicing operations that support it. These run continuously and produce the tonal and impulsive character that drives BS 4142 corrections, and much of it sits close to residential areas along the harbour approaches.
Move inland into Aberdeenshire and the picture inverts completely. Background sound levels across the rural county are very low, so plant, agricultural and renewable energy installations are assessed against a background that gives them almost no margin. Wind, solar and battery storage schemes all come up here, and each has its own assessment approach.
The Scottish planning framework applies, with National Planning Framework 4 as national policy. Aberdeen City Council covers the city and Aberdeenshire Council the surrounding county.
Typical instructions
Work that comes up here.
Taken from the job book rather than a service list. If yours is not on it, it is still likely to be routine. Send the wording and we will say so.

- Agricultural and rural plant assessment against very low background levels
- Planning noise assessments under the Scottish framework
- Noise at work assessments for industrial and offshore support employers
Local detail
We read your checklist before we price it.
Validation requirements vary between authorities and between applications. We read the one for yours before quoting, so the scope matches what is being asked for rather than what is usually asked for.

Learn moreQuestions
Aberdeen: common questions.
Do you assess wind and battery storage schemes?
Yes. Wind turbine noise has its own assessment framework rather than being handled under BS 4142, while battery storage is essentially a plant noise assessment dominated by continuous cooling and inverter noise, frequently tonal and frequently in a very quiet rural setting.
Is it practical to use a Manchester consultancy this far north?
For unattended monitoring, yes: the equipment is deployed for the survey period and collected afterwards, and the fee is fixed regardless of distance. For work needing repeated attended visits we would tell you honestly whether we are the right choice.
