The local picture

What we deal with in Swansea.

The Swansea and Neath Port Talbot corridor contains some of the heaviest industry in Wales, including steel and process operations that run continuously and are undergoing significant change. Assessments here deal with large, continuous, frequently tonal sources close to established housing, and cumulative effects where several operations affect the same receptors.

Away from the industrial corridor the picture changes completely. The Gower peninsula and the surrounding countryside have very low background sound levels, and plant, agricultural and tourism-related development there is assessed against conditions that give almost no margin.

Planning Policy Wales applies as the national framework. Swansea Council and Neath Port Talbot Council determine applications in their respective areas.

Local detail

We read your checklist before we price it.

Validation requirements vary between authorities and between applications. We read the one for yours before quoting, so the scope matches what is being asked for rather than what is usually asked for.

Questions

Swansea: common questions.

Do you work with heavy industry?

Yes. Large continuous plant with strong tonal content is among the more demanding BS 4142 work there is, particularly where several operators affect the same homes and the meaningful question is cumulative rather than individual.

Do you cover Gower and rural Swansea?

Yes. Background levels there are very low, which is exactly the condition where a plant assessment needs measuring properly rather than estimating.
