What we deal with in Wrexham.
Wrexham Industrial Estate is among the largest in Europe and dominates the acoustic picture for the area: manufacturing, food production, plastics and logistics operating around the clock, with residential areas and villages nearby. The work is mostly BS 4142, and as with any 24-hour operation the night-time period governs.
North East Wales generally combines that industrial base with a rural hinterland running up into the Clwydian Range, so background sound levels vary sharply over short distances. A plant assessment on the estate and one a few miles away in the hills are effectively different jobs.
Planning Policy Wales is the national framework here rather than the NPPF, which is worth knowing if your consultant is based in England. Wrexham County Borough Council and Flintshire County Council determine applications in their areas, and being just over an hour from our office means we can treat North East Wales as local.

Yes. Wrexham is a little over an hour from our office, closer than several English cities we cover, so North East Wales is effectively local for us.
Does the Welsh planning system change the assessment?
The British Standards are the same, but the policy framework is Planning Policy Wales rather than the NPPF. The technical work does not change; the way the report addresses policy does.
